![]() So there was some kind of big news out of Russia yesterday? Something to do with that Putin guy? Which means that you may not have noticed that yesterday was also officially Make Sweet Love Day in the Russian province of Ulyanovsk. (And here's a tidbit for your next trivia night: That's where Lenin was born.) Actually, they called it something more stuffy like Conception Day, but we decided to translate the spirit of the occasion, too. Lucky civil servants in this region were told to stay home from work and get busy in a whole other way--the idea being that Russia's shrinking population could use a boost. And wait, it gets better! If you just happened to be ovulating yesterday, and you just happened to conceive, and you just happen to deliver a baby exactly nine months from now, on June 12 (Russia Day), then you win a free TV! Or a fridge! It's like The Price Is Right meets The Handmaid's Tale. Unmarried women who give birth on the same day apparently receive some kind of lesser prize. Perhaps a turkey baster? |
