Burning Papers.jpg
In a burnt page right out of Fahrenheit 451, a moral crusader in Maine has taken it upon herself to decide what's appropriate for her entire town. Back in August she checked out several copies of It's Perfectly Normal, a sexual and reproductive health book for children and young teens, from two public libraries. So appalled by the "pornographic" material--which includes topics like puberty, masturbation and homosexuality--she has refused to return them (no doubt they lie charbroiled on her BBQ grill). She sent the libraries checks to reimburse them for price of the books, but the libraries have sent the money back and demanded she return them. The police have been alerted and the woman is expected to face theft charges. But wait, it's an epidemic! A Tuscaloosa teen has refused to return a novel to her library because she doesn't want her peers to be subjected to the racy hookup scenes she endured. If only we'd come up with that excuse when we first discovered Judy Blume's Forever.
