Photo via SplashNothing will ever touch Dick in a Box, but this weekend on SNL Andy Samberg came pretty damn close with another parody love song including guest vocals by an of-the-moment pop star who's fond of playing the field. This time 'round it was Iran So Far, a homosexual hip-hop open lust note to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, featuring the falsetto stylings of Maroon 5's Adam Levine. The music video has so many moments of pure, simple genius: two Jewish guys singing about a love that dare not speak its name for a homophobic Holocaust denier; a split-second appearance by bearded Mahmoud look-alike Jake Gyllenhaal; a chorus of singing children; Ahmadinejad perpetually smiling alternately in a gray suit, BDSM gear, and a red cocktail dress atop a grand piano (à la Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys); lines like "They call you weasel, they say your methods are medieval, you can blame the Jews, I can be your Jim Caviezel"...the list goes on. It's the kind of brilliant love song that makes you fall in love with the artist, even though he's not singing about you. |
