Photo via SplashIn honor of fashion weeks all over the world, a column in today's London Times digs up that old Catherine Deneuve quote, "A 30-year-old woman must choose between her bottom and her face." The idea being, apparently, if you spend decades of your adult life aspiring to be Us Weekly-scrawny, at a certain point all that malnutrition starts to take a toll on your face, leading to a haggard look that screams, "Feed me!" (Exhibit A: Teri Hatcher. Exhibit B: Renée Zellweger.) On the other end of the scale (literally), according to the columnist, are celebrities like Nigella Lawson and, at times, Oprah (apparently she can't decide between the two). Of course, it's not like there are a million dress sizes between a Teri and a Nigella--and it's not like most of us could have Nigella's face or body no matter what we ate (or didn't eat). But the gist of the quote, as we understand it, is that the older you get, the less sexy skinny starts to look. But if you ask us, skinny was never really sexy in the first place (though we admit that we're still struggling to love the bums we have). Anyway, when it comes to rear-view philosophy, we'd much rather turn to Spinal Tap's "Big Bottom." Screw all those skinny bitches; these lyrics will make you feel better. So, what's your bum mantra? |
