![]() Time magazine columnist Bill Tancer has crunched a few numbers and determined that, amongst the 18-24 set, Facebook et al (but mostly Facebook, it should be noted) now outrank online porn in the popularity stakes. He can't prove a correlation, but he hints at one, noting that over the past few years, traffic to social networking sites has gone up at the same rate as traffic to porn sites has gone down. Which might sound like a good thing...until you read an article like this one, detailing how young women use Facebook to photo-blog their drunken, semi-naked, date-rape-waiting-to-happen nights on the town. All of a sudden online porn seems kind of endearing and harmless. (And don't you just love how the article pretends to be all concerned for the welfare of these women and disapproving of their antics, when really the entire thing is just a front for republishing the photos of hot passed-out-drunk young things?) If you ever wondered what happens after the Girls Gone Wild cameras stop rolling, this is it. And it's not a pretty sight. Like Jennifer Garner recently told Glamour magazine about Britney Spears, it just makes us want to mother them. Does that make us officially too old to be on Facebook?? |
