![]() Photo via Splash We were remiss when we implied last week that it was only in the U.K. that the average boob size has, er, inflated from 34B to 36C in the last decade--turns out American boobs have experienced the same growth spurt. But that's not the only mammarian landmark we've reached: apparently the brassiere officially just turned 100--it was back in 1907 that Vogue magazine first used the word to describe a torturous-looking bust supporter-protector. This year is also the 60th anniversary of the padded bra--and the less-than-generously-endowed Em is thinking of throwing a parade in honor of Frederick Mellinger (of Frederick's of Hollywood, natch) who came up with this genius device back in 1947. A year later he outdid himself by inventing the pushup bra. (We guess that's how the ladies peacock...) And here's a parade-worth event for the more buxom among you: this year is also the 30th anniversary of the jogbra. Oh yeah, and the start of 2008 marks the 25-year anniversary of when Madonna started wearing her innerwear as outerwear. Which (a) makes us feel totally ancient, and (b) makes us long for the good ol' days, back when it was considered shocking just to show that you were, actually, wearing underwear. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

I'd also like a see a study done on what percentage of those women who *think* they wear a 36C *actually* wear a 36C.
I'd also like a see a study done on what percentage of those women who *think* they wear a 36C *actually* wear a 36C. And what happened before the Jogbra? That is actually kind of painful for me to think about.
