Maybe our friends over at ElasticWaist will have something to say about this, but we've always been slightly dubious of articles claiming that sex is an excellent weight-loss plan. Perhaps it's because it reminds us too much of an adolescent male's claim that semen is good for the complexion?

According to this "yay sex" article on FoxNews.com, "Forget torturing yourself with the latest fad diet or hours on the elliptical machine when you can burn about 200 calories in 30 minutes of sex! Lovemaking lends itself to improved strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and cardiovascular conditioning."

Um, can sex really burn twice as many calories as a brisk walk and as many calories as jogging? Sure, there may be periods of athleticism, but who really keeps up that kind of pace for 30 minutes straight? Is this assuming that we all fuck like pornstars? Also, if you're not on top, are you really burning that many more calories than you would be watching an episode of ANTM? Not that we advocate choosing TV over sex, of course, and not that we advocate a calorie-based approach to sexual decision-making. We're just saying, is all.

But hey, maybe the way you bump uglies does make you feel the burn. Maybe we're just lazy slobs in the sack. Though we have found that sex after a trip to the gym can be kind of hot, perhaps because the way your body reacts to exercise mimics the way it reacts to foreplay. Or perhaps because every woman feels more confident and sexier getting naked after a good work-out.

Oh, and if you're in the mood for embracing all the ways that sex does a body good? The same article actually suggests that sex can improve one's complexion. (No facial required.)
