![]() Remember 2004's The Girl Next Door with Elisha Cuthbert? What was truly memorable about the movie was that, despite featuring the most unrealistic plot line in a teen movie ever (hottie ex-porn star played by Elisha Cuthbert moves in next door to high school nerd, falls in love with him, turns out to be a total sweetie to boot), they actually manage to make a great point about the dismal state of sex ed in this country. (Plot spoiler: The ex-porn star recruits all her porn-producing friends to help make a steamy sex ed video for the local high school.) Okay, so that was the most memorable part of the movie for us, anyway. If you're a straight male and between the ages of 13 and 30 (oh, fuck it: if you're a straight male) the truly memorable moment was probably a tie between Cuthbert's striptease and her "Tell me how you want me" line, delivered on all fours. (YouTube it yourself, we refuse to do your dirty work.) We were reminded of this by the Fresh Focus Sex Ed Video Contest that's being run by four excellent sexual health information groups. The deadline has been extended to January 7th, so if you're between 15 and 30, you still have time to enter and win $3,500. You can either make a video about how much your own sex ed sucked (or rocked), or you can make your own version of a sex ed video. Note to future pornographers: the rules say "make sure everyone keeps their pants on." Which is perhaps one of the reasons why sex is so much more interesting than sex ed. (Though we're much more inclined to blame the abstinence-only approach of so much of the so-called sex ed these days.) Anyway, we're sure you can think of something. We're too old to qualify, but we have dabbled in a little sex ed ourselves. In lieu of taking off our pants or crawling around doggie-style on a bed, we just wore silly wigs and hawked sex toys like we were on the Home Shopping Network. Hey, someone's got to be the real girls next door. Elisha Cuthbert just plays one on TV. |
