Dear Em & Lo,

What the hell is the A-spot? What little info I can find online is completely contradictory. Is this just another "ecstasy button" made-up to sell magazines since everyone went so crazy over the G-spot?

Thanks!
Alphabetically Challenged

Dear A.C.,

Leave it to the internets to simultaneously help and harm the cause of sex education: on the one hand, people have private access to information about very personal matters that can help improve their love lives; on the other, about half of that information is pure ka ka.

As far as we can tell there is such a thing as the A-spot. It's also known as the A-zone, a.k.a. anterior fornix, a.k.a. AFE zone (anterior fornix erotic or erogenous zone), and a.k.a. T-zone (for trigone of the urinary bladder). Confused yet? Apparently, it's the nerve-rich area way inside the FRONT or TOP wall of the vagina, past the G-spot, next to or even beyond the tip of the cervix. If G-spot stimulation involves stroking the sponge surrounding the urethra via the vagina, then A-spot stimulation involves stroking one side of the bladder via the vagina.

This zone was "discovered" by Dr. Chua Chee Ann MD. back in the 90s. His research suggests that stimulating the A can help with vaginal lubrication and the chance for orgasm.  Check out his creepy website: Aspot-pioneer.com. It seems like a total scam, what with its late-night-infomercial feel ("Dr Chua charged $599 per participant for his one-day workshops. Right now, you can have access to the exact same knowledge online for just $147"). But the weird pdf slideshow of this guy's travels to various sex and health conferences, along with the hilariously low-budge video interview (linked to on his site) that takes place in a noisy cafeteria make us think he's for reals.

To find out the good doc's A-spot Stimulation Technique, you have to order the video, suckas (which we ain't gonna do). But from what we understand, it's basically firm, steady pressure with a curved dildo, vibrator or finger(s)--a penis doesn't have the same target control--first on the A-spot, and then eventually incorporating the G-spot as well.

We encourage people to understand their anatomy and try new things, and if it makes people feel better to give them special names, great. But we recommend that you concentrate on figuring out what feels good to you, whether it has a name or not, rather than chasing the latest "mind-blowing technique sure to give you explosive O's!"

We know our A B Cs,
Em & Lo

It's interesting that this is new to the sexual health world (scam or not), I stumbled across it in my early days of research in high school('96 or '97).
