Debunking the conventional wisdom that men and women are from different planets without any shuttles between is a pet cause of ours. Which is why we love this kind of research just out from the Kinsey Institute:
One of the main conclusions of the focus group study is that, just like women, men are different," Janssen said. "Sex researchers tend to focus a lot on differences between men and women, while not giving as much attention to the differences that exist among men, and women. This research is part of a larger agenda at the Kinsey Institute of looking at individual differences. This dates back to Alfred Kinsey's original research, but in our current research we not only try to capture the variations in men and women's sexual experiences--we also try to understand better what explains variations in those experiences."
So what are some of the more "surprising" reports from some of the men in the study?...

  • The risk of being caught in the act of sex is not necessarily a turn-on
  • Many men (not just teenage boys) can experience erections without being aroused or interested
  • As men age, they become more careful and particular in choosing their partner, like many women
  • Sexually experienced women were considered arousing (not intimidating) for older men
Now we're just waiting for a study to come out about men who love to shop, play video games, get regular manicures, masturbate, kickbox and gossip about their friends. We personally know two men who'd make great test cases (well, minus the mani's).
