"I'm fairly sure if they took porn off the Internet there would only be one website left and it would be called Bring Back the Porn." So said Scrubs' Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley), possibly one of the most brilliant characters in the history of television. But we're guessing he wasn't talking about porn for the ladies. And really, ladies, when will we start demanding a porn of our own? We just heard that Playgirl magazine is about to close for good, and we doubt hoards of women will take to the streets demanding its return. Imagine if Playboy were to shutter? There'd be a national freakin' day of mourning. We have to admit, we won't miss Playgirl--did it mean to turn us on? We never quite figured that out--but we will miss the idea of Playgirl. ...

Playgirl's erstwhile sex advice columnist Jamye Waxman has slightly warmer feelings, though even she barely musters a "thanks for trying." (Her post is thick with the implication of behind-the-scenes office politics.) But what we found most interesting in her post is how she compares the Playgirl-Playboy conundrum to strip clubs for women vs. strip clubs for men:
"When it's a male club, it's generally more of a male revue, and one must sit through a show that allows a few semi-clad men, wearing pants that generally rip off, to prance around on a stage surrounded by screaming, drunk women who are grabbing for penis and other body parts. When you go to a club where the dancers are female, nobody is screaming, or even grabbing or touching. The customers are sitting casually, at tables, drinking important drinks and talking, whether it be amongst themselves, with a few dancers, or on their cell phone (although the music is often too loud for the latter). It never feels like a show, rather it feels like a club, one that usually serves some type of dinner and drinks, and one that happens to have semi-clad dancers that perform both on stage and in your laps."
Huh. We have to say, we never thought of it that way. We've waxed lyrical in the past about how much cheerier most male clubs are, but the way Jamye puts it, clubs with female dancers are just a lot more grown-up. We still think that the majority of clubs with female dancers are more sleazy than sophisticated, but it's a fair point: Do women need to learn to be a bit less jocular and a bit more matter-of-fact in their appreciation of the male form before a magazine like Playgirl (only better) can thrive? One to grow on.

Men can go to strip clubs and ignore the dancers because they dont consider them to be people. They dont think "Hey, she's working her ass off in painful shoes, so I should at least show her it's appreciated." And women, well, we're just not as visually oriented as men. Just seeing doesnt do it for us. We have to touch. Thats why the people who go to strip clubs and buy porn are male and the people who buy toys and have sex with their eyes shut are female. And admit it girls, men just dont have sexy moves and they look ridiculous when they try.
