Our friend, fellow sex writer and Bedpost Interviewee Rachel Kramer Bussel has a great profile of Joel Derfner, author of the new book Swish: My Quest to Become the Gayest Person Ever (Broadway Books, May 2008) on Radar Online. With tales of secret affairs, stripping and--the ultimate in gayness--step aerobics, it sounds like a hilarious summer read...kind of like the queer version of Grant Stoddard's Working Stiff: The Misadventures of an Accidental Sexpert. Hey, it turns out both Joel and Grant each spent a day at Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls; not sure how Joel faired, but we thought Grant just looked like a sub-par drag queen rather than a legit girl, so we gave him our own girl-y makeover, which you can read here and watch video of here.) Besides participating in Coney Island's Mermaid Parade a few times, that makeover was probably one of the gayest things we've ever done. Surprisingly, Rachel's profile of Joel revealed some things that sounded pretty un-gay:
